The black powder mill in the Swiss village of Aubonne, near Lake Geneva, exists since 1853. With its rich history of more than 170 years, it is now considered as a cultural asset of national importance as it is the last black powder mill in Switzerland. Today, we still produce one of the highest quality black powders by using the original manufacturing methods - THE SWISS BLACK POWDER. Our employees feel committed to the manufactory and put their hearts into their work to keep the tradition alive.
OUR PRODUCTS
Since decades, Swiss black powder is known in particular for its high precision and the uniform burning rate. We will continue to produce our black powder according to time-tested methods in the future. Even by sticking to traditional production methods , we nevertheless produce according to the latest industry standards DIN ISO 9001:2015 and are committed to strictly adhere to the highest safety standards - for the safety of our employees and for the preservation of the historical manufactory.
Charcoal
Committed to quality - from the first to the last production step: The charcoal that is required for the production of our powders is still traditionally produced by ourselves. For this purpose, we charcoal buckthorn and alder wood at precise and controlled temperatures.
Fuse powder 0B
This powder is made from buckthorn charcoal. It is easy to ignite and is composed of about 100,000 grains per gram. Our priming powder is mainly developed for flint and fuse guns.
Blasting powder
This powder is produced based on alder charcoal. The implementation of this explosive powder is in the form of rapid combustion (deflagration). This means that its action is not crushing but pushing. For this reason, it is particularly suitable for blasting operations in which the rock must be carefully treated, for example, for the extraction of marble, roofing slate, or paving and building stones.
Shooting powder
Our hunting gunpowder is made exclusively from alder buckthorn charcoal. In master shooter circles, our shooting powder enjoys great popularity due to its excellent quality in terms of performance and durability. The numerous world records obtained using our powders are testimony to their quality and performance.
Cannon and mortar powder
This type of powder (Böller) is made from alder charcoal.
OUR HISTORY
Black powder has been produced in Switzerland since the Middle Ages. Initially by farmers, who operated the powder mills as a sideline to agriculture. The initially very poor quality led to the fact that many of the first powder mills were destroyed by explosions. In 1852, the 5 remaining powder mills were put under state control. In 1894, all Swiss powder mills were closed - except for Aubonne and initially Chur, which also had to be closed in 1976 due to the increasingly dense population. In the 1990s, the Poudrerie d'Aubonne was seriously threatened with closure due to economic difficulties. A joint takeover by the canton of Vaud and a private entrepreneur in 1996 saved its continued existence.
